If you’re still sacrificing your home made recordings and mixes because you think you don’t have the six-figure budget to come up with some basic sound treatment, think again! The most crucial forms of acoustic treatment are also the ones that are the least expensive to make. If you’ve set up a small recording area in your bedroom or in your home, there are some ways to improve the sound of the recording space as well as the way you listen to your music.

Choosing an appropriate space

If you haven’t dedicated a space just yet, it’s best to look for as large a space as your home or bedroom would allow. A larger space almost always guarantees better acoustic response than a tiny one because standing waves and early reflections are generally less (although still largely present if you don’t have any treatment). So to begin your project, look for a place where you can position your recording equipment or computer in the middle of the room so that sound bounces off the side walls at the same time with its trajectory. Once you’ve done this, set up your rig as you see fit.

Determining the best listening position

It’s always a good idea to experiment with the best mix listening position in any environment, but a good rule of thumb is to keep your head at a position that allows it to form a triangle with the tweeters of your studio monitors. Keep your monitors as far as possible from the back wall. Mark this position with duct tape on the floor, and try moving around it to hear the differences in phase that each position gives.

Place absorbers on the walls

A great tip to learn where to place your room absorbers is to take a mirror and run it to the wall opposite your studio monitors: whenever the mirror reflects the image of your monitors, mark it. Do it for all 3 walls (even your ceiling, if you can) because these are places where a direct transmission of sound will go. Place your sound absorbers at these positions to get their maximum benefit. Note that you don’t necessarily have to place absorbers on every square inch of your home studio walls unless this is the room response that you’re looking for.

Figure in the bass traps

The absorbers will take care of the mid and high frequencies, but these aren’t enough to create a neutral sounding space. Low frequencies are especially hard to tame because of their intense energy and capacity to creep between floors. The best way to treat bass frequencies is to place bass traps at the corners of your studio space (preferably from floor to ceiling) as well as places where the room’s walls meet the ceiling (as these are essentially horizontal corners). Treating your room for low frequency absorption is one of the best ways you can get a neutral sounding room and should not be overlooked.

Once these are in place, you’ve got a functional working space for your music. Consider some more advanced forms of treatment such as RPG diffusers and perhaps even some professional products as your budget will allow.

If your DIY home remodeling project involves paneling, make sure that the structure of your home is in good condition before placing the new panels up. Check for leaks or other problems that may weaken the structure or cause damage to your new paneling.

If your floors are weak from flooding or other misfortune, repair the problem before putting new carpet down. This is one of the most important DIY home remodeling tips in existence. Covering up a problem may provide for a temporary fix, but will only worsen with time. Rather than further ruining the structure of your floor and ultimately your new carpet, make sure that any problems causing moisture or weakness in the floor are repaired.

One of the most popular DIY home remodeling projects is the installation of kitchen cabinets. When choosing your new cabinet design, always make sure that it coincides with that of your kitchen. In addition, always take a look at the warranty coverage before making any type of remodeling purchase. A quality product will offer a generous manufacturer’s warranty and will cover any defects in material or workmanship.

If you are replacing old windows or doors, make sure that you take all of the proper measurements before you shop for replacements. This is very important in confirming that the new items will fit perfectly. With both windows and doors, you will want to make sure that no cracks or other areas are present to allow for hot or cold air to creep inside your home and inflate your energy costs. If cool air comes through in the winter, your heating bill will be higher because it will take more to heat your home. The same is true of those hot summer months when you are using the air conditioner. If warm air gets inside your home, the air conditioner will have to work harder to cool your home. One of the best DIY home remodeling tips is to make sure that your replacements fit perfectly and you can ensure this by measuring precisely before making a purchase.

The majority of small DIY home remodeling projects can be completed by the homeowner, but some may require the help of a contractor. An example would be having a wall taken out to increase the size of a room or building a new room addition. These are both situations where a DIY home remodeling project may call for the help of a professional contractor. This does not mean that the contractor has to do all of the work, but can help to make sure complex parts of the job are done correctly or even help to supervise the completion.

Everyone likes to have home improvement work done but most people are afraid of the words, “do it yourself.” There are many different types of DIY home improvement projects out there but not enough time to do them all. What we will do now is take a look at the steps needed to DIY re-upholster a chair.

1.Be sure to take pictures of the chair before you tear it apart. Be sure the pictures are of the overall chair and its detailing.

2.Now you need to remove all the upholstery being careful not to tear any because they will be used for patterns. Use pliers and scissors for this.

3.Remove the black cloth from the bottom of the chair first. Then remove each piece while making sure to mark each one so you know where they went.

4.Cut and add batting as needed for each section of the chair.

5.Take the original pieces and lay them right side up. Watch for patterns and motifs.

6.Pin the old pieces to the new fabric and cut the new fabric leaving at least 2 to 3 inches of excess.

7.You now need to figure out how much welting you will need.

8.Now it’s time to place the pieces back on the chair after they have been assembled.

9.Next staple the welting to the chair.

10.Now pin the fabric to the sides of the seat to ensure a perfect fit.

11.Next tack and ensure the fit of all other upholstery for the chair and then staple it.

12.You can use the original skirt for the chair or use the old one as a pattern for a new one.

13.Finally trim all of the excess fabric. Use a strong fabric glue or adhesive to attach buttons if needed. And you’re finished.

Now you know next time you need some home improvement you can do it yourself. DIY home improvement doesn’t have to be a struggle and it doesn’t have to take forever. All you need to do is relax and take your time. If you follow the directions to DIY reupholster a chair it should be a great new addition to any home.

Except for saving money on your electric bills, there are also some other reasons to use solar panels. With the solar panels, you don’t have to be restricted to use some appliances. It’s also beneficial to the environment. Instead of getting electricity by burning fossil fuels, we should try to use renewable energy because solar power or wind power is renewable and available in any where.

Solar panels can be purchased in many places but the price is extremely high because they are made up of high quality materials. There is no need to buy a very expensive solar panel because you can make a cheaper solar panel by yourself and it will work as same as a ready-made one.

The materials you may need are electric stove or hotplate, sheet metals, electric drill, sand page, salt and solar cells. Making a solar panel can be very easy since there a re many guides available on the internet and they won’t cost you too much, around $40. Therefore you don’t need to worry about this. Even you don’t have any experience, you still are able to make one.

Solar cells are the main parts of a solar panel. The steps to build it are simple. Some of the steps are using sheet metal shears to cut copper and connect the solar cells together. After you finish making your own solar panel, put it on the roof or in your backyard, then you can start to get free electricity with the solar panel.

The estimated expense to build solar panel can be less than $200.

So you’ve finally made the decision to go green, save money on your electricity and help erase your carbon footprint. You’ve also made the wise choice to build your own wind turbine rather than forking out a ton on a prefab model that produces the same amount of electricity. The materials are cheap, the process is simple. All you really need is a little bit of time and the right set of plans.

A good set of plans will be geared to someone who has never done this before, someone who is neither an engineer or a general contractor. A good set of plans will include:

Novice friendly instructions
Materials list as well as locations to get everything as cheap as possible (many parts even for free!)
Needed tools (you’ll be surprised to find that most of these are already around your home)
Great support, the right set of plans will guarantee you get it right or your money back and even offer you help in your endeavor
Great bonus material, the set of plans I went with even provided instructions on how to easily build solar panel units

Getting yourself a set of DIY wind turbine plans could be the biggest thing you do this year. After all, who doesn’t want to eliminate their electrical bill while at the same time feeling good about their impact on the environment. This new trend is here for a reason, its cheap, its easy, it saves you, and it helps to save the planet in the process. So what are you waiting for?

You will want to have a miter saw when you are working with things like baseboards and trim work. They will not only help you cut on a straight angle, but it will also help you to cut on a horizontal angel too. Most will even do beveled edges. You will find that the miter saw quality that you purchase will depend on your budget. You will find that there are many additional features with the higher priced saws. Sliding saws will allow you to more the blade forward so that you can cut the larger pieces.

With compound miter saws you will be able to get the same things like a straight cut, horizontal angle, but they also have tilt motors. Meaning, they can cut bevels. Most of the typical miter saws that you will see on the market do not have the title and are unable to cut the bevels in the wood. You will find that the miter saw will sit on a table while the saw blade spins and is push down through the wood. These types of saws are very durable. Some are light weight and all are portable. You will find that this is because they need to be carried from job to job.

Dual power compound saws may even be known as double bevel saws. This is because they can cut straight and horizontally, but they are able to be tilted in either direction. This is why they are better for beveled edges. You will find that this type of equipment can be very expensive, but it is way better than the typical compound saw.

Sliding compound saws are great, but they work in a way that the compound saw works. There is just one difference that makes the sliding compound saw a little better. That is they can be pulled forward as the wood is cut and you will be able to cut larger pieces of wood because of that added feature.

Out of all the compound saws, it is the dual compound sliding saw that is among the best. These can be used for the typical cuts, but they are able to be tilted in either direction. They also are able to more forward as the wood is cut. They can be moved from site to site with ease and it can give you a professional look for work or home projects.

There are other things like radial arm and miter saws that you can use for work or play. You will find that they can do a variety of cutes, even crosscutting. You will want to keep in mind that some of these power tools can be very expensive, but you have to decide what it is that you need to get the job down, and what features you can afford to invest in.

Be it indoors or outdoors, Home improvement DIY’s are not only about adding functionality to rooms, hallways or yards. These days, DIY projects are fun-filled activities for the whole family to get together. With the best intentions in mind, almost anyone can achieve professional-looking results without the use of a contractor.

DIY Home Improvement nurtures the significance of family togetherness coupled with a warm home mindset. Here are the Top 3 DIY Projects that you can do as a family.

Painting the Kitchen

Painting the Kitchen is one of the easiest and quickest ways to brighten up the “grayish” flavor room. A task like this when done alone could take up to several days to a week to complete. This is one of those projects that desperately requires the family’s help to complete.

(=Sideline=)

Try coming up with fun painting themes like “Painting the Kitchen to be Two times Bigger” or “An Authentic Italian Style Kitchen”. This way, your family can enjoy a fun filled goal while you ensure your project runs smoothly as planned.

Another fun family project could be as simple as painting the kitchen cabinets. Everyone loves an “Instant Makeover”. This can be the perfect solution to lighten up dark cabinets or brighten them up with bold colors.

Custom Build Something Useful for your Family Member

Custom building something useful for the house is probably one of the best ways to get the family involved, especially your kids. It could be a secret surprise renovation for your Mum’s birthday or simply building a piece of furniture catered to your son’s or daughter’s fashionable taste.

(=Sideline=)

Try getting your children involved by helping you to create certain parts of the project or furniture. Kids will be kids and we sometimes like to spoil them because we love them. If you are a parent building something for your children, listen to your their suggestions and let them quietly instruct you on what they really want.

Build A Custom Piece of Furniture To Sell

This exciting yet encouraging project may be a tricky undertaking. But if done properly, with conscious business mindset, family planning and execution; will most possibly result in a source of lucrative income. Tricky because of the greediness of human nature; where everyone wants so do a little lesser and take the bigger share of the profits when flourishing.

If you plan to custom build a piece of furniture.

How do we use a Do It Yourself (DIY) home solar energy system to reduce our electricity bill? One of the major expenses of our homes is the electricity bill. We use electricity to power all our household appliances. Most electric power plants use either oil or coal to generate power. We know the supply of this material is limited therefore as housing development grows, the cost of electric power will increase as well. How do we shield ourselves from future rising cost of electricity? One option is to use a renewable energy source such as solar power.

The current challenge of using solar energy to power our homes is the high cost. If you were to engage a contractor to do the retrofitting, be prepared to invest a few thousand dollars. Many people would not be able to afford that. As an alternative, we can build our own homemade solar energy system via a DIY approach.

The idea of extracting the power from the sun ray is quite simple. We need to install an array of solar cells on the roof to collect the energy from the sun and convert it into electric power. The power from the sun is stored in rechargeable deep cycle batteries. Since most or our home electric components use AC current, we need an AC converter to change the DC power from the batteries into alternate current.

To reduce our household electricity bill is a matter of connecting our home appliances into the solar power system. The amount of power we can use from the system will depend on the size of the solar panels and also the number of batteries. If we were to aim for 10 percent energy cost reduction, the amount of money saved will be quite substantial after a few years.

You may be a do it yourselfer (also called DYI) because you enjoy fixing things up around the home, or may stumble upon these projects out of coincidence or lack of funds to hire a professional. Whatever the reason you decide to go the DYI way, if you are beginner, you may need to learn a little bit about the basics before delving into a large project. Here is a look at how to get started in any do it yourself project around the house, no matter how large or how small.

Assess the Project:

Before you begin any project on your own, you will want to take a look at what needs to be completed. Are you looking at a small project such as installing a new bathroom sink or painting your bedroom wall? Or, are looking at some more significant and time consuming such as a complete kitchen overhaul or tiling a floor? Smaller projects are certainly easier and quicker to tackle than the larger ones and if you are beginner that is where you might want to start. It is generally not wise to strip your floors bare, invest hundreds of dollars in expensive slate tile and then find that you are unable or unequipped to handle the project. Before you begin, it is always a good idea to look at what is in front of you and make a list of step by step instructions on how you plan on getting your project complete.

Take Classes and Learn the Ropes:

The next thing that you will want to think about before you begin any type of home improvement project by yourself is to determine whether you have the necessary know-how to get them completed. If you have painted your walls before, then you already know the basics. However, if you do not know the first thing about putting a new sink in your kitchen, then you need to learn how to do it. One way to learn is to visit your local library and check out books about home improvement. These will a basic review on how to get these projects started from start to finish. If that is not enough information for you, then check out the type of classes you may be able to take right in your area. Many home improvement centers hold these classes each weekend for the do it yourself-er. You will learn a lot and gain the confidence to tackle any project on your own.

Last of all, you will want to stick to your budget and make sure that you do each step of your project as intended. Many people who start home and kitchen improvement projects have good intentions and soon find they are in over their heads. This is when they find they must call in the professional to un-do the mess they have made. Not only is this a headache for you, but it will take more time and money in the long run. When you want to complete a project by yourself, make sure you know what you are doing before you even begin.

If you’re interested in finding out how to run your home on the clean green alternative solar power then you’ve come to the right spot.

The first thing you need to think about is location. The sunnier the spot, obviously, the more energy you are capable of generating; and for a minimum investment of solar panel use age. The angle is also important, flat is better in some locations but often you will need to adjust the positioning so that your panels catch the maximum rays for the day.

You can easily purchase solar panels, or kits, all ready to go but you will end up spending as much as 10 times what you will pay if you find some good schematics and purchase everything individually. In my home I paid only $200 for materials, and the cheapest kit I could find would’ve ran me $2,000 for the same wattage output.

The materials you need are simple to find and cheap to buy, they include:

Two copper alligator clip leads
A sheet of copper
A stove (preferably electric)
A glass or plastic container with a wide mouth
A multimeter for reading your electrical currents, needs to be able to measure up to 15/20 micro-ampere
Simple household accessories (you probably have these already) such as salt, sand paper, scissors, and access to clean running water

Once you have these all you’ll need is a good, easy to follow, set of assembly schematics (or designs). There are many out there, but beware… not all are created equal!
